Madhubani painting is a style of art painting that is still in practice in certain parts of Bihar, especially Mithila. Since this style of painting originated in Mithila region,it is also know as Mithila paintings.
                               Madhubani painting is characterized by line drawing filled in by bright colours and contrasts or patterns. This style of painting has been traditionally don by the women of the region, though today men are also involved to meet the demand.These paintings are popular because of their tribal motifs and use of bright earthy colours.These paintings are done with mineral pigments prepared by the artists. The work is done on freshly plastered or a mud wall. For commercial purposes, the work is now being done on paper, cloth, canvas etc.

मधुबनी पेंटिंग कला चित्रकला की एक शैली है जो अभी भी बिहार के कुछ हिस्सों, विशेष रूप से मिथिला में प्रचलित है।  चूंकि चित्रकला की यह शैली मिथिला क्षेत्र में उत्पन्न हुई, इसलिए इसे मिथिला चित्रों के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।

                       मधुबनी पेंटिंग को चमकीले रंगों और विरोधाभासों या पैटर्नों से भरी रेखा खींचने की विशेषता है। इस शैली की पेंटिंग पारंपरिक रूप से क्षेत्र की महिलाओं द्वारा दी गई है, हालांकि आज पुरुष भी मांग को पूरा करने के लिए शामिल हैं। उनकी पेंटिंग लोकप्रिय हैं  आदिवासी रूपांकनों और चमकदार मिट्टी के रंगों का उपयोग। इन चित्रों को कलाकारों द्वारा तैयार खनिज रंजक के साथ किया जाता है।  काम हौसले से प्लास्टर या मिट्टी की दीवार पर किया 

जाता है।  व्यावसायिक उद्देश्यों के लिए, अब काम कागज, कपड़े कैनवास आदि पर किया जा रहा है।
